How can I learn about LSWP?

We encourage you to take a class in Lead-Safe Work Practices and read the EPA brochure Lead Safety During Renovation*. For tenants and homeowners there is also the EPA brochure Renovate Right*. Am I required to take the Lead-Safe Work Practices (LSWP) Quiz?

No. However, some building departments may require that the quiz be taken before issuing a building permit involving a structure built before January 1, 1978.

Where do I take the Quiz?

The LSWP Quiz is available on the Alameda County Lead Poisoning Prevention Program website and can be accessed from any computer with internet access.

How do I take the Quiz?

Click on the following link: Lead-Safe Work Practices Quiz. Type in your full name and answer the questions by checking the box next to each correct answer and click "continue". If you have one or more incorrect answers they will be displayed in "red" and you will be asked to go back and correct them. If you need help answering any question, click on the "show help" button next to the question and a small window with more information will be displayed. When all questions are answered correctly, you will be prompted to continue to the LSWP Quiz Completion Form page. Your name and the date you took the Quiz will be displayed automatically on the Completion Form. Print the Completion Form, sign it and keep it for your records.

How do I find out when the house/structure was built?

Your county assessor's office may be able to help or this information may be on your tax bill. If you live in Alameda County please call (510) 567-8280, the Alameda County Lead Poisoning Prevention Program's Information Line, and the person answering should be able to assist you with this information.

What if I do not pass the Quiz?

The purpose of the Quiz is to educate residents on how to avoid creating lead hazards by following Lead-Safe Work Practices (LSWP). Therefore, the Quiz is designed in a way which allows users to go back and correct their answers if they have incorrect ones. In addition, users can learn more about LSWP by clicking on the "show help" buttons next to each question.

What if I do not have access to a computer?

The Quiz is available on the Internet and can be accessed from any computer with Internet connection. If you do not have a computer, you can go to the local public library and use the library's computers to access the Quiz. A library card is needed to access the library's computers. If you do not already have a card, the application is free and only takes a few minutes to complete. (You must have photo ID and proof of residence address).
